Toronto police are searching for suspects in several gunshots and shootings connected to tow trucks that occurred in the east part of the city within the last 24 hours.
What happened at Tow Truck Shooting?
Officers reported that between Saturday at 2 a.m. and Sunday at 7:45 p.m., they responded to eight shootings that are tow-truck related in Scarborough. Police say a rear passenger fired the shots. Last month, police announced the creation of a new task force to battle criminal activity between tow-truck operators. Police say that this year, there have been 26 tow-truck related shootings.
They were over territorial disputes, and most were in the city’s east end. In April and May, police reported there were nine tow truck arsons. Since the start of this year, tow-truck drivers must pass a criminal record check to maintain their towing licence. Tow-truck drivers must have their Ontario certificates by today. The province says the new certification for the towing industry will protect drivers against fraudulent companies.
Police urged anyone with information to contact police at 416-808-2510.
